North American P-51D Mustang
I began work on my 1:5 scale P-51D in March 2005 and donated it to the Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford in September 2013, shortly after completion.
The model is finished in the partial livery of Captain Donald Emerson's machine, as represented by Robert Tullius' magnificent restoration displayed at the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon. Captain Emerson was shot down and killed in the aircraft on Christmas Day, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. The model is my small tribute to all US pilots and crews who gave their lives in support of their British and European allies over two World Wars.
